OCTOBER 2024

October is National Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

Strength, Courage, and Wisdom.

It’s inside of you, inside of all of us.

During this time, we honor those we have lost and stand with those who have found safety and healing.

Domestic violence impacts 1 in 3 women and 1 in 4 men have experienced severe physical violence from an intimate partner in their lifetime. And IPV occurs in LGBTQ+ relationships at similar or even higher rates that in the general population*. These statistics show that domestic violence isn’t just an individual issue—it’s a community problem that demands collective action. At InterAct, we believe everyone has a role to play during Domestic Violence Awareness Month (DVAM) and beyond.

By coming together, we can create communities where healthy relationships thrive and abusive ones are no longer tolerated. It starts with each of us taking a stand and working toward safer, more supportive environments for all.

Strength, courage, and wisdom are within each of us. Now is the time to harness those qualities and make a lasting difference in the lives of survivors and our communities.

Together, we can save lives, rebuild lives, and secure safer futures. Thank you for standing with us.

What is Domestic Violence?

Domestic violence is the willful intimidation, physical assault, battery, sexual assault, and/or other abusive behavior as part of a systematic pattern of power and control perpetrated by one intimate partner against another. It includes physical violence, sexual violence, psychological violence, and emotional abuse. The frequency and severity of domestic violence can vary dramatically; however, the one constant component of domestic violence is one partner’s consistent efforts to maintain power and control over the other.
